And so it begins..
No, it isn't the rather futile push for Shaun Wright-Phillips to break into the first team squad for Chelsea..
Nor am I talking about the start of the AFL finals (with which I will not watch with great excitement due to the absence of my Bombers)..
What I'm referring to is the beginning of the Mega Down Pourâ„¢. The constant, depressing type biblical style rain that was forecast for today through to next Monday. The rain that is threatening my tennis match tomorrow and the Amazing Race thingy that my church is running on Saturday.
It started out innocently enough, a few trickles of drizzle as I was walking to the station after class tonight. Its developed into full blown rain and now I'm starting to consider what will happen if it does rain on Saturday. It surely will be fun, running around in the rain all day. It will probably mean that I will have to listen to quite a few whinges about the weather from the two girls that are on my team for the race. Sounds like fun ay.
I think on a level that is more pressing, it has dented my ambition to do some exercise outdoors tomorrow morning, if the rain keeps up like this. I went for a run on Sunday for the first time since Credo's Easter camp this year. I was pumped after that and had huge ambition to continue on Monday, determined that the excuses I used to use won't be applicable anymore..
Then Monday morning came around, and I woke up in time (around 8 something). What was the reason I didn't run? My back was hurting in a single spot and my right arm was aching. Both probably from tennis the night before.
"Okay" I thought. "I'll just go tomorrow! Rest up today ay? Its important to have rest days to allow your muscles to strengthen up and not burn yourself out" I reasoned.
So Tuesday rolled around and once again, I woke up in time. Except what happened this time?
"Maaan, I'm tired.. I'm going to just sleep for another 15 mins.. its early!"
45 mins later...
"Oh crap, I need to go to uni! No more time for a run! I have to go tomorrow!!"
So, today rolls around. I set my alarm earlier! 7.35am. Time for many things, running, shower, a nice breakfast...
*beep beep beep*
"Maaaan, so tired.. I'll just nap for a bit more..."
1 hour later...
"Ugh.. I'm so lazy.. How did I manage to do it again??"
I think I need to stop planning in such a way, so I don't disappoint myself and just get up no matter what my body protests with..
I read somewhere once that the difference between someone who is too lazy to get out of bed and exercise and someone who does get out of bed to run, is that the person who does run manages to ignore the lazy protests his mind puts up and just pushes himself to exercise.
Something to keep in mind eh?
As for this Saturday, I'm ignoring the faint lazy protests my mind is trying to throw at me about running about in the rain and telling myself that its all about having fun :) And... testing out the waterproofness of my asics eagle trails :P
